# 3 | Block a branch of river / intake canal

The principle: block the main arm or the secondary arm of a river

It is a perpendicular type installation (case # 1), simplified (cofferdam positioned perpendicular to the banks, without pipeline).
The upstream flow goes through the arm of the river which remains free.

It is essential to remove the silt from the installation area.

If the water level is important, try to find a location on the arm of the river where the depth is the lowest.

If the speed of the current is high, it is recommended to restrict the flow in the arm of the river as much as possible to ease the installation (winnowing, wooden planks, big-bags).
